Get them ready for the future, without the brain rot.

Five-to-ten-minute lessons, built around the job your child dreams of. Real reading, maths and science, with an AI that quietly adapts to each child.

Free to start. No ads, ever. You stay in charge of what they see.

Hi! I'm Kislap.

What do they want to be?

Kids pick the job they dream about. Every lesson on that path teaches the real reading, maths and science behind it.

By age 7, the jobs children imagine already look a lot like the ones they want at 17, and many come from the few grown-ups they happen to know. Drawing the Future, 2018 (opens in a new tab) Dream Paths show them more of the world, so the choice stays theirs. Tap a card to see what they learn.

  • Architect
  • Engineer
  • Scientist
  • Programmer
  • Doctor
  • Teacher
  • Entrepreneur
  • Artist

You choose what they see. From the parent area you can hide a path, suggest one, or set today’s pick. Reading and maths run alongside every path, so learning stays complete.

Why this isn’t brain rot

Every session ends on purpose.

Feeds and autoplay are built to keep children watching. Tala is built so they can stop. A session is about as long as a picture book. Then Kislap says goodbye, sends them off to play, and gives them one small thing to look for at home.

The World Health Organization advises no more than one hour of sitting screen time a day for children aged 2 to 4. WHO, 2019 (opens in a new tab) Our sessions fit well inside that, and you set the daily limit.

One study of the apps 3- to 5-year-olds really use found that only about one in five had no manipulative design, like surprise rewards or nudges to keep playing. Radesky et al., 2022 (opens in a new tab) We left all of it out.

  • No ads.
  • No autoplay, and no endless feed.
  • No streaks that guilt, no countdowns.
  • No prices shown to kids. Ever.

All done! Time to go play.

Daily limit for Ana

Parent area

Ana can learn for up to 15 minutes a day. When the time is up, Kislap says goodbye. There is no “one more”.

Try a lesson

Ten calm minutes, made for their age.

Tala grows with your child, from tapping shapes at 3 to solving floor plans at 12. Pick an age and play the first step of a real lesson.

Little, 3 to 5
Audio first, so no reading is needed. Big pictures to tap, one idea at a time, about 8 minutes. Best with a grown-up close by.
Explorer, 6 to 8
Short sentences with audio on every step, and little labs where they guess first, then test. About 12 minutes.
Thinker, 9 to 12
Multi-step problems and projects, with a helper that asks questions instead of handing over answers. 15 to 20 minutes.

Tap the shape that makes a door.

Lola's mango tree had just one ripe mango left. Ana wanted it. Her little brother Ben wanted it too.

What could Ana do, so they both get some?

A story page for a 4-year-old. Kislap reads it aloud, then asks.

AI that helps quietly

A patient helper in the background, never the star.

It adjusts the next step.

Tala notices what your child finds easy and what needs another go, and quietly picks what comes next. Kids never see it working.

It reads aloud, and asks questions.

For children who can't read yet, Kislap reads the story and stops to ask about it, the way you would at bedtime. In one study, children aged 3 to 6 understood a story about as well with a questioning AI reading partner as with an adult. Xu et al., 2021 (opens in a new tab)

It guides, it doesn't hand over answers.

From age 6, kids can ask Kislap for help. It answers with a hint or a question, never the finished homework.

What it never does. It never chats freely with children under 6. It never pretends to be a person or a friend: Kislap always says it’s a helper. And you can read everything it says in the parent area.

For parents

See what they learned, not just how long they were on.

Each week you get progress by Dream Path and by subject, the minutes they spent, and a short note in plain words: what’s going well, and one thing to try together at home.

Every Kislap chat is there for you to read. Settings, limits and billing sit behind your parent PIN, and one account covers up to 4 kids, each on their own path.

This week’s note

Ana is getting quicker at adding numbers up to 20. She asked twice why boats float, so her next science lesson is about sinking and floating. Try at home: fill a basin and guess what sinks before you test it.

Questions

What parents ask us.

Why is it called Tala?

“Tala” is the Filipino word for star. Every child is a little star, and Tala gives them a calm few minutes a day to shine, with Kislap (a cat whose name means “sparkle”) cheering them on.

What ages is Tala for?

Children aged 3 to 12. When you add a child you pick their age band: Little (3 to 5), Explorer (6 to 8) or Thinker (9 to 12). Lessons, reading level, session length and how Kislap talks all change with the band.

Isn't this just more screen time?

It is screen time, and we won't pretend otherwise. The difference is what kind. Sessions are short, every one has a learning goal, and each ends on purpose with “All done! Time to go play” and something to try away from the screen. There are no ads, no autoplay and no endless feed, and you set the daily limit.

What are Dream Paths? Does my child have to choose a career?

No. Dream Paths are a way in, not a decision. A child who dreams of being an architect learns shapes, measuring and area through building tasks; a future doctor learns about the body. Kids can try any path, you choose which ones they see, and reading and maths foundations run alongside so their learning stays complete.

How does the AI work, and is it safe for young children?

The AI works in the background. It adjusts what comes next, reads aloud for children who can't read yet, and asks guiding questions. Children under 6 can't chat with it freely. From age 6, Kislap can answer questions, always says it's a helper and not a person, and never asks for personal information. Messages with phone numbers, addresses or school names are held back before they reach the AI, and you can read every chat. Kislap runs on Claude, a model made by Anthropic.

Read our safety commitments

Will Kislap do my child's homework?

No. For homework-style questions, Kislap gives a hint or asks a question that helps your child think it through. It never hands over the finished answer.

How long does a session take?

About 8 minutes for Little, 12 for Explorer and 15 to 20 for Thinker. You set a daily limit of 15, 30 or 45 minutes in the parent area, and when it's reached, Kislap says goodbye.

Is it in English or Filipino?

Lessons and narration are in plain, simple English, so kids anywhere can follow along. Tala was made in the Philippines, so some stories visit the bahay kubo, the sari-sari store and the jeepney. Phonics in Filipino is part of the reading track we're building.

Does my child need an email address or a phone?

No. You create the account and add each child with a nickname, a Kislap colour and an age band. Kids learn in kid mode on your device, and only your PIN gets back to the parent area.

How much does it cost?

Tala is free to start: 1 Dream Path, the first lesson of every other path, and 3 sessions a week. Tala Plus is $4.99 a month or $39.99 for a year, for up to 4 kids. Children never see prices.

What happens to my child's data?

We keep as little as we can, never sell it and never use it for ads. Kislap chats are deleted after 12 months, and you can delete everything sooner from the parent area or by emailing privacy@tala.kids.
